Ujalon Ka Safar

"Ujalon Ka Safar" is an initiative of KP government with aim to construct community based 1000 Mini/Micro Hydro Power Projects (MMHPPs) across the KP. Scope of the MMHPP is to facilitate the access to electricity to remote villages and other off grid installations (schools and medical centers) by using renewable energies like micro hydro. The main objectives of the project are

  • Provision of low cost, locally managed and environment friendly electricity
  • Optimum utilization of water resources available in the KP addressing the energy needs of the population
  • To inculcate concept of self-reliance and self-help in the installation as well as operation and maintenance of plants
  • To promote economic activities in the backward areas
In vision to provide mini/micro hydro power solution to communities, homes, basic health units and schools, to reduce burden on national grid and to improve environment, KP Govt. has assigned PEDO (Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization) to develop 1000 mini/micro hydro power projects in the whole province.
The project is divided in two phases. In the 1st phase, government has launched 356 mini/micro hydro power projects ranging from 15KW to 500KW. These projects located in northern districts of KP are in the phase of completion. The second phase consist of 672 mini/micro hydro power projects ranging from 20KW to 1500KW and the whole project is divided into three regions or packages, consultants are being hired for each region and the project will be initiated soon.
